LANDSCAPE WITH LOGO

Portrait

Nietzsche said that philosophers or moralists who try to escape decadence by opposing it, they become – in the end – its most powerful promoters. We agree, and complaining about the times we live in is an act of decadence. This essay casts a look at decadence from another angle: Poetry.

What is Landscape With Logo? First of all it’s an experiment in visual communication which applies the elements of corporate image to the incorporeal. It’s a metaphysical act placing a label on decadence, it’s gluing a sticker to freeze a moment in time. The presence of a Logo downgrades reality to the category of any other marketable product. Each photo is commented by soluble captions to the use of tenderfoot philosophers. Every fragment of life, every thought, every sentiment and reflection can be easily assimilated into the black hole of marketing. The intangible now falls into the same category of stuff: items on display. The poetic act, in itself, ends up on a shelf. Landscape with Logo is selling the last vestiges of our world to anyone willing to buy them. And the poetic act, the invisible beauty, converges into the gilded whirl of decadence.
